T.S.Sturdy
Nautical Training Corps

  The Band

Sturdy have their own band and musical instruments. These give the cadets a chance to learn new skills. Every cadet has the choice on which instrument they would like to play.

Instruments are:

Side Drum

Base Drum

Cymballs/Tambourines

Trumpet

Bell Lyre (a type of Xylophone).

Each instrument takes time to learn, and with practice at home and at band rehearsals you can become a quality band member.

Every October, the NTC hold an annual "Band, Colour and Fanfare Competition", where all the bands of the NTC come together for a display of their marching and musical skills. In 2006, we took 3rd place in Contest class, won Best Wind section and were joint 1st in Best Mallet (Bell Lyre) Section, whilst in 2007 we went even better, winning joint Best Mallets for the second year in succession, as well as Best Percussion, Best Display and Showmanship, and taking 1st place in Contest class, beating 4 other bands in the process.

As well as this, the band perform throughout the year at a variety of events across the region.

Please note that cadets can only join the band once they have attended three Deck Nights in a row, and that Band Practice takes place every Tuesday evening, between 6:50-9:00pm.
